1. Purpose of the feature

Leg Load By Area tool allows to create rectangular or polygonal 3D selection box which reflects the extent of scaffold dead load applied to considered leg.

It then automatically calculates masses of the components within the selection box based on components properties and selected ratio per each component.

The Leg Loads by Area works for any scaffold system including Tube and Fitting

Prerequisites

Microsoft Excel must be installed on the machine prior reports generation.

2. User Interface overview.

The tool is located under the Engineering tab.

To open the tool menu please double click on the tool.

The "Leg Loads by Area" function may be preselected in the Report Type row (under number 4), as shown below.

Take a moment to familiarize yourself with the interface:

FUNCTIONALITY

File Name and Naming Components in Reports

The File Name is a view-only value generated automatically based on the following structure:
Prefix – Job Number – System – Report Name – Selection Box Name – Postfix – Revision.

Prefix: A customizable text field that can be filled by the user. If provided, it will appear at the beginning of the report name and be included in the File Name.
Report Name: A user-defined text field specifying the name under which the report will be saved. If left blank, the report type name will be used as the default.
Postfix: A customizable text field that can be filled by the user. If provided, it will appear at the end of the report name and be included in the File Name.
These components provide flexibility in naming reports while maintaining a consistent structure for organization and easy identification.

Checkbox options

Include Job Number: When selected, the job number from the Project Info will be added to the file name.
Include System: When selected, the system name will be included in the file name.
Include Selection Box Name: When selected, the name of the selection box will be added to the file name.

Revision

The "Revision" field allows the user to enter a custom Revision text value to be displayed at the end of the specified report name and will also be included in the file name.

Report Type and Numbering

The "Report Type" is a drop-down list that offers the following available report options:

  • Leg Loads by Area - calculates and creates reports for leg loads by area (rectangle or polygon) picked in the model.
  • Leg Loads by Bay - calculates and creates reports for leg loads for a bay added by using the Bay tool (any extra components added over the bay will not be considered in calculations).
  • Wind Loads Report (available in AU only) -  calculates and creates reports for wind load cases available for Layher and Kwikstage scaffold systems only.
  • Scaffold Tie Register - generates tie register in Excel format.

Show numbering – when selected, the view model will be updated to display existing engineering selection box names and wall tie numbers. Deselecting this option will remove these elements and update the view model accordingly.

Leg Load tab

Engineering Selection Box Settings:

New Box Name: Enter a text value that will be assigned as the name for a newly inserted engineering selection box.
Existing Box Name: A drop-down list displaying all available engineering selection boxes currently created in the model.
Checkbox Options:

Show Ratio Per Selection Box: When selected, components ratios will be displayed in the model once the engineering selection box is calculated (after clicking the "Get Data" button).

A component ratio represents the component mass to be included into the dead load calculations. As an example, 0.5 ratio of the component represent half of the component mass to be included into the dead load calculations.

These values will disappear when the view is updated or redrawn.
Control Buttons:

Zoom Selected: Zooms in on the currently selected engineering selection box in the model view.
Create Screenshot: Captures a screenshot of the current model view and stores it in the "Reports" folder within the model folder. The screenshot will be named after the selected box name.
Show Screenshot: Displays the previously created screenshot for the currently selected box name.

Model Selection and Data Grid Filtering

Filters Rows to Selected Scaffold Items in Model: This button filters the data grid rows based on the currently selected objects in the model.

Selects Scaffold Items in Model from Selected Rows: This button selects scaffold items in the model based on the profiles of the selected rows in the data grid. To add elements to the current selection in the model, hold the Shift key while selecting.

Searches in Table: The search box allows to dynamically filter the table by entering characters. It will match any part of the profile name, whether it’s the entire name or just a few characters.

Resets Table: Clicking this button clears the search box and removes any filters applied to the table, including the filter set by the "Filter Rows to Selected Scaffold Items in Model" button.

Dead load data grid

This data grid summarizes the dead load for structural analysis of scaffolding.

Helps to preview material weights and overall structural loads for project planning or safety assessments.

Components are grouped by type (e.g., Base Collar, Base Plate 60), with details like unit mass, selected quantity, and total mass.

The "Selected Mass" is calculated by multiplying the unit mass by the selection ratio, reflecting the weight of each component used.

Down the bottom there is a summary of Total mass of components captured by the selection box (area) and Total dead load of components captured by the selection box (area).

Initiates the process of adding a new engineering selection box  - 3 points needs to be picked to define a box capturing components to be calculated.

Calculates load cases for the box currently selected in the model. If the box is not selected in the model - the box specified in the "Existing Box Name" dropdown will be used for the calculations.

Generates the leg load by area report and saves it to an Excel file under Reports folder of the current model folder. After creation the Excel file will be opened on the screen.
To save a current tool settings it is required to type name of the setting into the box and click Save button. To load previously saved settings please click on the box to drop down a list of setting s available then choose a desired setting. Once the setting clicked from the drop-down it will be automatically loaded, and dialogue boxes updated to values saved under the setting.
Opens ScaffPlan knowledge base articles on the tool usage.
