Independent Stair Tower Overview

1. Purpose of the tool.

The Independent Stair Tower is a scaffolding solution designed to provide safe and efficient access in construction environments. Key features include:

  • Complementary Functionality: The Independent Stair Tower is introduced to complement the tube and clip scaffold functionality, serving as a common access method in various regions.
  • Types of Stairs: It includes options for different stair configurations, such as platform stairs (single and double return) and symmetrical stairs (double return), allowing for flexibility in design.

Design Options: The tool supports the creation of stair towers with double stair flights, enhancing accessibility and safety for workers on site.

 

2. User Interface overview.

The tool is located under the Scaffold Modelling tab.

To open the tool menu please double click on the tool.
The tool contains following features:

Settings Tab allows users to select a Stair type arrangement that is controlled by the Scaffold System that has been specified in the Project Info Tool.

  • Stair type: you can choose between a Platform or Stringer tread arrangements and varying widths Single or Double widths
  • Top guardrail: this is a set value by default of either At 1m, this can be overridden to include an additional guardrail at a higher level using the 1m and 2m setting
  • Flip stair: users can quickly change the direction of the run from Left to Right or Right to Left using No or Yes
  • First riser location: The allows the first riser to be insider the bay frame or outside as a step. (This parameter is unavailable for some arrangements). 
  • Create gates: you can choose to include gates on creation of the stair and this will automatically adjust the attached bay guardrails and remodel the arrangement to include all additional elements without any manual remodelling. (This parameter is unavailable Stringers arrangement). 

It is important to remember that some Stair types will not be available to you depending on the Scaffolding system you are using.  You can also switch systems at anytime to include stair types from other manufacturers

Standards Tab allows greater control on how stair bay configuration is implemented. 

The main driver is the Size parameter that allows ScaffPlan to automatically choose Standard Lengths or alternatively specify a specific length from the system manufacturers range that may be required for design or availability reasons 

Top and bottom end also can be specified to form more bespoke bay configurations, these include;

  • Open
  • Spigot (Top End only)

The Rotation parameter controls the direction of the Bottom end configurations

If the Bottom extension type is set to Custom an additional Input parameter becomes available to specify a user input value

Sole board Tab defines the material Type and Arrangement

3. Tool dialogue buttons.

FUNCTIONALITY

To save a current tool settings it is required to type name of the setting into the box and click Save button. To load previously saved settings please click on the box to drop down a list of setting s available then choose a desired setting. Once the setting clicked from the drop-down it will be automatically loaded, and dialogue boxes updated to values saved under the setting. 

Opens ScaffPlan knowledge base articles on the tool usage. 

Prompts to create an independent stair tower by clicking 2 points in the model.

Saves values set in the dialogue boxes without closing the dialog box. ScaffPlan uses these properties the next time you create an object of this type.

Modifies the selected stair using the current properties of the dialog box such Type, Subtype, Name etc. as set in the tool.

Gets properties from the selected a stair selected in the model and fills the menu with the values of the selected stair. If several stairs are being selected, ScaffPlan takes the values from the first one selected and updates the dialogue boxes.

Switches all check boxes in the dialog box on and off.

Used when all boxes need to be unticked then some only need to be ticked (taken into effect) once the Modify button is pressed after.

Closes the tool menu without saving the properties or modifying objects.
